Character

Ragdolls or ‘rag dolls’ have a special character. Their name comes from the curious fact that these purebred cats can hang limply in the arms of their owner. They are very pleasant companion cats that quickly form friendships with dogs or other animals. They are also very calm and gentle towards children. They expect the same from those children. So it is best not to put a Ragdoll together with very small and busy children.

Appearance

Cats of the Ragdoll breed have a beautiful and distinct appearance. These extraordinary cats have typically large, bright blue eyes. They can also be recognized by their soft, medium-length coat with few tangles and a ruff around the neck. This coat comes in different colors and patterns. Sometimes the fur on the body is light and the head, legs and tail have a more distinct coloration (color point). In other ragdolls the legs, chin and chest are white (mitted). And then there are two-colored ragdolls with colored ears and tail on an otherwise pure white fur (bi-color). Colors that occur are cream, dark and chocolate brown, blue, lilac and red. Ragdoll cats weigh a maximum of 9 kg and the female cats may not weigh more than 6 kg.

Other particulars

Ragdolls have a relaxed temperament and great confidence in people. They will quickly walk with a stranger or get lost. That is why it is wise to always keep a ragdoll on its own domain. They don’t need too much grooming. Ragdolls live to an average age of 12 to 15 years.
